Workshops & Community Education
Educational workshops helping people understand movement, injury, rehabilitation and long-term performance.
Current workshop:
Lower Back Longevity Workshop
Helping you continue doing what you enjoy for longer
Many people assume that stiffness, aches or changes in movement are simply part of getting older. Whilst our bodies naturally change over time, there is often far more we can influence than we realise.
This educational workshop explores why the lower back is rarely just about the lower back and introduces practical ways to better understand how your body moves. Through a combination of discussion and simple movement screens, you'll gain a greater understanding of the factors that contribute to long-term movement, exercise and training capacity.
What you'll gain
During the workshop we'll explore:
Why movement and recovery change over time
How the lower back works as part of a wider movement system
Simple ways to better understand your own movement
Practical considerations to help support long-term activity and exercise
What to expect
This is an educational workshop with practical movement screening throughout the session. It isn't a workout or fitness class, but you will be encouraged to take part in some gentle movement activities to help better understand your own movement patterns.
There will also be opportunities to ask questions and discuss the topics covered.
Before you attend
Please bring:
Comfortable clothing or sportswear suitable for gentle movement.
A tennis ball (or similar firm ball) for one of the practical activities.
Something to make notes with if you'd like to record any observations.
Some of the movement screens will be completed in pairs, with one exercise mat shared between two people. There's no need to arrange a partner beforehand.
About me
I'm Rachael Storr-Meddings, founder of Newquay Injury Hub. Over the past 20 years I've worked in clinical practice, university teaching and high-performance sport, helping people better understand how their bodies move and why injuries or restrictions develop.
One of the things I enjoy most is helping people understand why something feels stiff, painful or restricted, rather than simply treating symptoms. My aim is always to give people practical knowledge and confidence so they can continue doing the activities they enjoy for as long as possible.
I hope this workshop gives you a fresh perspective on movement and leaves you with a few simple ideas you can take away and use straight away.
